BAC clip video is done.
Posted on 05.20.05 by Josh Root @ 12:11 pm

My 2005 Bay Area Classic clip video is done. There are a few things to note about the video.

1. There are two versions. A “PG” version and a “PG-13″ version. The only real difference is that the “PG-13″ version has 4 minutes of footage from Doc Pop’s burlesque/vaudeville show “Dirty Little secret”. And as you might guess from a “burlesque” show, there are a few shots of scantily clad ladies. But it’s all very tame compared to anything else you might see on TV these days. There isn’t even any nudity. But since some people might not want to be surprised by it, I thought I would make a second version that has none of the naughty parts.

2. It’s kind of long. The “PG-13″ version is aprox 13 minutes and 80MB and the “PG” version is 9 minutes and 60MB. Why? Well I had a lot of footage and I liked it all. This isn’t the normal “Here are a bunch of tricks that people did at BAC and a few shots of my friends being stupid” contest clip video. I took my camera EVERYWHERE with me that weekend. I wanted to make a video that showed people what they missed by not coming to BAC.

3. Which brings me to probably the most important point of all. This video was made with the “movie” mode on a Canon SD300 digital still camera. Why would I use a tiny cheap-o digital still camera when I have a wonderful $2000 3-CCD camera sitting in my camera bag? Because I wanted to prove to people that you don’t need a ton of money to make something fun that people will want to watch. You just need to put some effort into thinking about what you want to film and how you want to edit. Yes, I used Final Cut on my mac to edit. But there is nothing that I did as far as editing that couldn’t be done on imovie (or even Windows Movie Maker probably). Money does not equal skill. For one thing, if I had used my fancy video camera, I sure wouldn’t have caught HALF of the cool clips I did. Who wants to haul a big camera around with them everywhere? The SD300 easily fits in my pants pocket.

Anyway, here are the videos. Hope you like them. They will be up on the x-project server later today for those who don’t like yo-yo.org or who have reached their D/L limit. You will need quicktime to watch them.

-PG-13 Version (80MB aprox)
-PG version (60MB aprox)

EDIT: The PG-13 version is also available HERE. Thanks to Michael Montgomery (who makes an appearence in the video as the guy with cornrows).

EDIT 2: Michael’s server is aparently a LOT faster than the other one.

Rememberrainier.com

Looks like that rememberrainier.com website is finally working. I had thought it was more of a local type of site, but it looks like a promotional plan by the Rainier Beer company.

Not a bad promotion though.

BAC 2005 yoyo contest photos
Posted on 05.13.05 by Josh Root @ 1:39 pm

2005 Bay Area Classic yoyo photos are up in the “Toys” section HERE. It’s a great contest. Congrats to everyone who put it together.

Best of all, San Fran is just a two hour flight from Seattle. Hooray for no long flights!

Thanks to everyone I had fun with over the weekend. Special thanks to the rain for holding off until the day after the contest.
