Well, Andrew didn’t make it into the money in the second tournament. But even with the entry fee, he’s still up overall….in poker. The roulette wheel doesn’t like him nearly as much. The wheel liked Ryan a lot, but then grew fickle. I haven’t been playing that much, but Stacey did have a few nice runs on the slots. There is a nifty (and overpriced) art gallery in the Venetian that had some cool Dr. Suess sketched & drawings. I know his stuff isn’t cheap, but there was nothing under $4000 there by him. Which I think is at least 200% too high. But maybe I’m just filled with sour grapes. Stacey and Gretchen found a slightly run-down casino across the street from Bally’s that actually had nickel slots that pay off in real nickels. So they went nuts there hearing the clink-clink-clink of the coins, instead of the recorded sound that comes out of the modern machines. However, the nickels are really gross and make your fingers nasty dirty. Thankfully they do give you baby wipes when you cash out. To close out the night, Andrew and I saw a couple of drunken “10 years past graduation” ex-frat boys start yelling a swearing because the $2 drink bartender made them wait too long. Grow up and get a clue. Give any of the waitresses a good tip and she’ll bring you drinks all night long that are twice as strong. Instead, they got escorted out of the casino. Good times. Check out Andrew’s pile of chips! Yesterday he entered a $50 buy-in tournament here in the Bally’s poker “room”. He made it to the final table and got 4th place. Good for just over $150. So he made his money back and got $100 for his time. However, the slots and roulette ate up some of his winnings later that night. He is in another tournament today and looks to have made the final table again. As for Stacey and I, she is staying pretty even on the slots recently. But is down overall (not by much though). Roulette ate $40 of my money. But penny slots gave me $75 back the next day. Then $5 craps at a junky casino downtown gave me $50. But $5 craps at the Bally’s casino promptly took it all back. C’est la vie. Don’t know how Ryan and nicole are doing, but everyone seems to be having fun. Filed under: Friends and Josh's random life Comments: 2 Comments |

Andrew, Stacey, Gretchen, Nicole, Ryan and I are all on a trip to Vegas! Oh Boy! Alaska Airlines was horrible once again at Seatac. It’s sad, they used to be such a good airline. But we all got here wth luggage intact, checked into the airport and promptly decided to take a nap (getting up before 4:00am will encourage that sort of thing). After our nap, I decided to take a quick shower. As I was sliding the glass door open and leaning in to turn on the faucet, the shower door fell off it’s track and cracked me in the back of the head on it’s way to the ground. This hurt quite a lot and gave me a headache. I called the desk to get someone up to fix it. that process promptly turned into a 45 minute annoyance of filling out report forms, refusing medical checkups, security guys with cameras to take photos fo the door, maintence guys who didn’t have the right screw to fix it, and so on. By the time they were done, everyone was starving, and I still hadn’t gotten to take a shower. So on our way back through the lobby, I decided to force the issue a little bit and point out the annoyance of the situation to the guest services manager. With a little bit of discussion, and pointing out that I really shouldn’t have to deal with getting hit on the head (even if we were small-time guests), we got upgraded to a suite in the north tower. We weren’t really expecting much from the “upgrade”, but getting out of the crappy south tower with it’s horrible slow elevators was great. Especially since the other couples were staying in the north tower. But when we got to the room, BOOM! It was a real suite with a huge jetted tub and everything. I have returned to the homeland. and upon my arrival I was greeted with a front-page (of the second section) article in the local paper advertising my athletic prowess. those of you not blessed to have a subscription to the Anacortes American can check my steez online (and online comes with a Wren-edited version safe for children and those faint of heart).
