In elementary school having an August birthday was always difficult. while all the other kids with non-summer birthdays had their names announced over the intercom and enjoyed delicious in-class cupcake feasts, the rest of us June - August folk had to suffer in silence. never fully getting the recognition we deserved.

and while I have taken up numerous posts this month celebrating a few of my fellow summer comrades (Shane, Wren, Ben, Mike, Me), due to my failing memory I have neglected to recognize many more who also are members of the elite, yet often-overlooked, club known as the:
Ortus of Augustus.

Let me now take a moment to apologize and send love to each one of you. while our ages and locations may vary, our eighth-month connection ties us all together. …and to those of you whom I may have still forgotten, sorry. you’ll just have to send angy comments like Ella.

Posted on 08.29.06 by Andrew @ 3:06 am

where has the music gone? …look no further my friends!

1) Tapes ‘n Tapes - Cowbell
(great song, mediocre video. RAM file*.)

2) Wolf Parade - I’ll Believe in Anything
(need i say more?)

2) Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
(not a bad album. not radiohead, but definately not bad. RAM file*.)

3) The Game - Hate It Or Love It
(great song. back when 50 and Game were still friends. sigh.)

*(if the RAM files don’t open the first time, try them again. they will. i promise.)

Tough as nail.
Posted on 08.28.06 by Josh Root @ 10:56 am

These nails weren't made for walking.

I am sad. Bandages off.

In the continuing saga of things going wrong with our pets, Griffin tore up his toenail the other day. We’re not exactly sure how it happened, but likely it was out hiking on the trails with his buddy Lad.

After a trip to the vet to remove the nail, he limped around quite gingerly for a few days. But it turned out to look a lot worse then it really was. And now he’s back up running all over like normal.

Worst. Something. Ever.
Posted on 08.25.06 by Josh Root @ 10:22 am

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

-Robert Frost

Have you ever driven an old car too fast down a bad dirt road? At some point you say to yourself, “this thing may just fly apart and take me with it”. That’s how I feel. I could, quite conservatively be called “a mess” today.

4 hours into a 14 hour work day. My hands are shaking, I have delightful bouts of nausea every 10 minutes, I can’t eat anything, I can’t calm down because there is no time to stop moving, and I leave in 5 minutes for the first part of a wedding. After which I will come back to work for another couple hours, then go back to the second part of the wedding. I might just fly apart.

And miles to go before I sleep.

PART 2:
FWIW, the day improves simply by the fact that the minutes and hours simply keep clicking by. It’s just after 3pm now, and I have had a quick nap and given up on acomplishing anything other than just making it through the day. So I’m feeling a little better.

Happy Birthday Worms!
Posted on 08.23.06 by Josh Root @ 12:17 pm

Bin = 1 More worms than in our cat's lower intestine.

Stacey’s worm bin is now one year old!

I have to admit, after having been around WAY too many badly build compost piles, I was very suspicious of having such a thing in the house. But it has been really cool. The worms eat a bunch of scraps every day and churn out dark rich compost that stacey has put into her garden. And no smell at all. In fact, in terms of smell, the worm bin is WELL behind: the dog, the cats, the cat box, me, my shoe pile, stacey and the fridge. So it’s doing pretty well.

if there has been one negative to my move to Boston, it has definately been the serious lack of bowling going on. can you believe that i am the ONLY one in our house that has his own shoes and ball? …pretty sad.
fortunately, while my visit to Anacortes wasn’t rife with actualy bowling, it was chocked full of Silver Strike Bowling which is pretty much the next best thing. and as you can see from my righteous score, i keep it just as real on the video lanes as i do on the wooden ones. 1st place baby.

ALSO:
(my friend, Jen, is currently doing her thesis for her MHC degree. she has a research project going and needs participants for her study. if you are between the ages of 21-30 and work as a bartender, server, direct care staff at a residential facility, or as a clerical office worker, please take the time to fill out her survey. There will be a chance to win $50 at the end when she gets the needed amount of particiants. so not only will you help her out, but you might get rich as well.)
