And now the time has come to unmask our mystery commentator. A few things to know about Jaketheranger: 1. He graduated Anacortes High School in probably 1995-6 and graduated Seattle Pacific University in 2004 with a degree in education. 2. The Olympic sport that he is ranked 338th in the world is fencing. 3. He is very into playing poker. It would appear more seriously than either Andrew or Toli. 4. He blogs HERE. His writing is fun to read, but a little heavy on the poker conversations. But hey, isn’t brothersroot a little heavy on the animal posts? However he appears to have given up on the blog, since it hasn’t been updated in some time. 5. HERE he describes himself as a “a very minor and irrelevant blast from Josh’s past”. Now that I have found out his identity, I take issue with that statement. While we wouldn’t have been called”close friends” in high school, at the very least we were more than just acquaintances. Our paths intersected on a regular basis through common interests and shared friends. He is someone who has caused me to think more than once in the past few years: “I wonder what he is up to these days”. So in that sense, it’s nice to have unmasked the mystery. Jaketheranger is……Jeremy Ballenger Sadly, the internet didn’t have a picture of him that I could find. And I thought it too cheesy to drag out the AHS yearbook for one (if I could even find that yearbook). Filed under: Friends Comments: 7 Comments |

Yes, yes, you all have noticed my lack of posting since the weekend. How clever of you. Especially Andrew, with his funny jokes at my expense. Ah laughter, the opiate of the masses. However, the truth is no laughing matter. Old man winter has had Bellingham in a death grip for the past few days. No sooner had Davidson and I unloaded the moving truck at the new west coast brothersroot headquarters, than the snowflakes started falling. Eventually leaving more than a foot on the ground here. And of course that would be just about the time that Tuba decided to go missing again. Stupid cat. But good friends always figure out a way to get together. So we had a fine “welcome to town” pasta meal with the B-ham boys + Tony & Davidson. But friendship can’t protect everything. Old man winter had plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Breaking my bamboo and punching Kevin in the eye. Watch out for him kiddies, I hear he is bringing his icy breath to the east coast next! As for the Jaketheranger issue, you can all just calm down. I have scheduled it to “auto-post” later today. Just so Andrew has to stay up past his bedtime to read it. Filed under: Friends and Josh's random life Comments: 10 Comments |

okay okay okay. i know the other half of br.com has been making promises. sooo many promises that have yet to come to fruition. disappointing so many readers. but let us just sit back for a moment and think. …hmmm. now why would Josh be so hesitant to drop the “jaketheranger” bomb? who is he protecting? after all, what do we know about jaketheranger? he’s a male. he’s from anacortes. he’s about josh’s age. he knows josh’s friends. he plays some obscure “olympic sport“. wow. i wonder who JakeTheRanger could be? you know, the greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he didn’t exist. First day of snowboarding was great for me this year. I had skipped out on opening day due to the rain that ruined the slope conditions. And I had been too tied up with all the house stuff to go since then. But Davidson and I finally made it up there yesterday. Ten inches of new was plenty fun. No first tracks, because we were too lazy to get up at the crack of dawn. But lots and lots of soft turns. And even a few untracked secret spots. You can see a thrilling 20 second video of andy taking a pow turn by clicking below. On Hwy 542, a road crew was clearing out some fallen trees, the sign above was a great prediction for how good the day would be. We did have to watch out for some shifty birds trying to steal our snowboards. And no Saxtor, I’m not making my “super-cool” post today either. Snowboarding was too interesting. But it will happen soon: Filed under: Snow/Skate/Climb/Bike/Etc Comments: 10 Comments |

tell me folks, have you ever gone to a birthday party at a spooky haunted mansion, only to find an abandoned Pole Position arcade game in the garage? then did you plug the game in, take the back of the casing off, and figure out how to add credits? and then have you ever spent the remainder of an evening drinking the champagne of beers while fruitlessly chasing down Per’s high score? then did you blog about it 3 months later? ….yeah. me neither. (just for the record, it was technically Per who masterminded the free credits. Filed under: Andrew's World of Wonder Comments: 8 Comments |

Kramer goes nuts, gets videotaped. We all knew Michael Richards was a little off his rocker. But who knew he was a full blown n-bomb dropping, lynching referencing, racist? I’m not really sure what to say, I actually find it fairly uncomfortable to watch. What sane person would think this was a legit response to even the worst heckling? But there you have it, Michael Richards career has got to be over after this. He can apologize all he wants, but who is going to hire him again? Not that he was doing anything worthwhile these days anyway, but now? Yesterday was all bloggers and web media. But the mainstream media is now picking up on the story. But what is worse, is the conservative bloggers that are somehow making up ways to defend Richards. That is pretty pathetic. Sure, there are too many PC stress-cases in the world. But this goes way beyond saying “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”. Richards appeared on The Late Show last night via satelite while Jerry Seinfield was a guest. But his apology was odd at best, referencing “afro-americans” and somehow causing audience memebrs to start laughing, causing a rebuke from Seinfeld. The apology did have the predictable effect of inspiring people to make a number of apology and tirade remixes that are all over youtube today. EDIT: Looks like Youtube is getting pressure from CBS to remove the Late Show clips. So you might have to search for it if you want to watch the apology.
