Xmas Megapost 1
Posted on 12.28.06 by Josh Root @ 12:07 am

Uke are less cool than us. I hate being around pretty girls.
Wow! A PHONE! Tony breaths fire, or tries to anyway.

Dec 23, 9:00pm-1:00am
We went down to the Brown Lantern for a few drinks and so I could play music with Josh Young. Met up with some friends, made some jokes, and had some fun. The Brown is WAY cooler place to be when you don’t go there every weekend. Hooray for moving out of town!

Josh stole that hat from a girl scout. Lars has some words of wisdom.

Dec 24, 10:00am-12:30pm
Lars, Josh, and I were the only people from last year to make it to the 2nd annual “Idiots in the rain on St. Presents eve” golf game. But our friend Annie’s son Hayden tagged along, and reminded us that if we’d started playing regularly when we were 14, we might actually be able to play well.

Dinner is fun, no matter what Alecia's face says. Look! It's a
New PJ's? Hells yes. Stacey and her dad dislike new PJ's.

Dec 24 3:00pm-9:00pm
Stacey, Griffen and I went down to her parent’s house for St Presents eve dinner. After that, we opened presents! I got some nifty stuff, Stacey got some more, and Griffen slept all afternoon. That Griffen, he so CRAZY.

WOW! what will “Xmas Megapost Part 2: Judgement Day” bring?

“Here” is the new “where”!
Posted on 12.24.06 by Josh Root @ 6:25 pm

This beard is not as nice as Josh's. Ben attempts to blend in with the b-ham kids by looking stoned.

Andrew is here! Ben is here!

Yippee Skippity! What sort of hilarity will the full squad of brothersroot get into this week? Stay tuned to this internet station and see!

Damn the UK snakes and their largeness.
Posted on 12.21.06 by Josh Root @ 2:54 pm

My snake is all tiny and squashed.

So it’s bad enough that the GBP is killing the USD in exchange rates, everything over there costs like, a million dollars. But now the UK can rub our noses in the fact that our gummy snakes are tiny compared to theirs. What, do we have a cow hoof shortage around here that is causing us to have to scale back our gummy candy arms race? How can the USA be 22 inches behind the UK in gummy snake size? Lousy Brits.

I call for an immediate tax on all vegan cheese to pay for research into creating larger and more impressive gummy reptiles. The USA will prevail!

Who Is Best of What?
Posted on 12.20.06 by Andrew @ 5:30 am

so haven’t we all been inundated with just a few too many “Best of 2006″ lists over these past weeks? i know i have. …however, the culminating “indie” site Pitchfork Media just released who/what they deem to be the uber-cool of ought-seis. and guess what? my TOP 10 barely ranked on their TOP 50. so what does it all mean? well obviously that Pitchfork is off their indierockers, and that i am truly the only one you can trust in the world. so sad.

here is how my list did against theirs:

10. Soul Position - Things go Better with RJ & Al *UNRANKED on PITCHFORK*
9. Final Fantasy - He Poos Clouds *UNRANKED on PITCHFORK*
8. The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine *#17 on PITCHFORK*
7. Tapes N Tapes - The Loon *#40 on PITCHFORK*
6. Man Man - Six Demon Bag *#20 on PITCHFORK*
5. Band of Horses - Everything All the Time *#12 on PITCHFORK*
4. Islands - Return to the Sea *UNRANKED on PITCHFORK*
3. Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I am Dreaming *#15 on PITCHFORK*
2. Beirut - Gulag Orkestra *UNRANKED on PITCHFORK*
1. TV On The Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain *#2 on PITCHFORK*

ahh hell. whatever. listen to the new (radiorip) Arcade Fire song, Intervention.
or 3 new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah songs.
(thanks to RegnYouth)

Chopsstck lern mie special news!
Posted on 12.19.06 by Josh Root @ 2:45 pm

Stacey and I went out to eat at AW Asian Bistro, a resturant in Fairhaven, the other night. I got to eat sushi for once, and Stacey was happy because there was plenty of Thai and other Asian inspired foods. Both of us were pleased with the food quality.

The service however, was horrible. Slow and incorrect. However, I got to entertain myself with the handy instructions on the chopstick package.

Learn...

The lesson starts off okay. Basic, straightforward, bizarre length fingers.

Learning...

Still doing alright. “Hotd” is odd, especially considering that they spell “hold” correctly two words later in the sentence. But the point gets across.

Learned!!!

Now we are into a real mess. “Move its second one up and down, up anyching”, what does that even mean? Thank god I don’t know how to read, or I would really have been confused.

Top 10. You know you want it.
Posted on 12.18.06 by Andrew @ 2:48 am

Without further ado here is my official TOP 10 ALBUM LIST OF 2006
That’s right kids. You’ve waited all year to know who I think deserves a spot in the top 10, and here it is in all it’s glory. Feel free to argue, shout, and disagree, but know deep in your heart of hearts that I am right.

10. Soul Position - Things go Better with RJ & Al
9. Final Fantasy - He Poos Clouds
8. The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine
7. Tapes N Tapes - The Loon
6. Man Man - Six Demon Bag
5. Band of Horses - Everything All the Time
4. Islands - Return to the Sea
3. Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I am Dreaming
2. Beirut - Gulag Orkestra
1. TV On The Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

okay dokey. this was a tough list. specifically for 7 - 10. lots of other albums could have made it into these slots. Arizona - Welcome Back Dear Children; Peter Bjorn & John - Writer’s Block; Grizzly Bear - Yellow House; Swan Lake - Beast Moans; Pinback - Nautical Antiques; Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche; Two Gallants - What the Toll Tells…. the list goes on and on.

but i guess that is what makes the top 10 so challenging. gotta place some limits. Like not including EP’s. MYKE.

Brief Explanations:

Soul Position: I love RJD2, and this is no exception. Commercial rap was weak this year. but this is good stuff.
Final Fantasy: I have a soft spot for the violin and Owen wields it like a sword. Great show too.
The Thermals: Not typically my style, but it is so good, that genre aside, it blew me out of the water. short, fast, and angry.
Tapes N Tapes: Indie-darlings. Hip, but you can’t debate that they are on point.
Man Man: The one band that I am really bummed that I haven’t seen yet. Amazing album from start to finish.
Band of Horses: I liked Carissa’s Weird, and I like this. Fast or slow it doesn’t matter, all the songs are great.
Islands: AMAZING live and so much better than the Unicorns. Poppy, rappy, instrumentally. It’s all there.
Sunset Rubdown: Per’s got a crush on Spencer Krug and why not? He is the total package. Unique with a capital “U”.
Beirut: One man bands appeal to me. Something about all that talent bottled up in one person. This kid had “it”. Whatever “it” is.
TV On The Radio: No words to describe. A near perfect album. What rock should be.

In honor of all the great bands that produced beautiful tunes this year I put together a Best of 2006 mix that I hope you all will enjoy. It is hosted on YouSendIt and hence will be active for 7 days or 100 downloads. Whatever comes first. Enjoy and let me know what you think. I broke the file up into two zipped files for slightly easier downloading:

Best of 2006 - I (60mb)
Best of 2006 - II (72mb)

ps. myke is the only other of my friends that takes nerdy music as serious as I. so it is only right that he has his top 10 published as well:
10) belle and sebastian- The life persuit
9) beirut - gulag orkestar
8) voxtrot - mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives (EP)
7) man man - six demon bag
6) figurines - skeleton
5) joanna newsom - ys
4) tv on the radio - return to cookie mountain
3) band of horses - everything all the time
2) sunset rubdown - shutup i am dreaming
1) islands - return to the sea
