Ukulele Punk
Posted on 03.29.07 by Josh Root @ 12:14 pm

These guys are cool. I wish I had a ukulele friend to play punk songs with. Hell, I wish I had a friend. I have tried to get Saxtor interested in the ukulele, but he keeps yelling something about “Four string hula-tool of satan.” & “The slow death of musical decency”.

In any case, their other stuff includes a Sheena is a Punk Rocker cover and a weird country/bluegrass song called Hootin’ and a Howlin’.

Real quick cause I gots to go to work and am too tired to stand:
Menomena was awesome. They played all the hits that make the kids dance. If you don’t own “I am the Fun Blame Monster” and “Friend & Foe” you are really missing out.

1) Menomena - Cough Coughing
(a rerun. i know. but i had to post something)

Blow, man, blow!

Ten years. So long, and so short at the same time. Sitting here with a ale in my hand and some jazz on the radio, I raise a toast. Your sons miss you, but I like to think that you’d be proud of what we’ve become. Here’s to you my old man, here’s to you.

Sing it pseudo-Mixalot!

Ah GodTube. What a wonderful idea. All the annoying low-quality videos of YouTube, but with a delightful Jesus hugger twist. Click on the photo above to check out the super fresh beats in their crazy rap video. Do the Christians know how to “get down” or what? In all fairness, while most of the site is crap, there are a few cool not horrible videos. I thought this one was going to be a “I’m a Christian, and I’m an atheist” type of Mac vs.PC Apple ripoff. But it turned out to be funnier than that. There are a couple of them in that series.

Almost makes me wish I wasn’t such a godless heathen. Ah well, I guess I’ll just have to settle for coveting my own wife. I wonder what’s on TV?

I bought me a stairway to heaven.
Posted on 03.19.07 by Josh Root @ 1:16 pm

How many Anacortes High grads does it take to cut a board? Kev can hold a 14 foot board with his butt.
Andy and Tony make the magic triangle. Yeah, I know it's a mess.
Just like what girls got! We thought about just stopping here. Nice dancing there Fred A-stair.

I now have a nice set of stairs in my shop. Tony came over Friday and we got started on the project. Stairs are hard to plan when you’ve never built them before. And more than once we thought we had a plan and then decided to scrap it (thanks to our phone-a-carpenter Lars). But we finally got going and with some help/hindrance from Andy and Kevin, were able to figure out the correct angles for the stringers. Actually, I owe Andy a bit of an apology. For some reason I had it in my head that he wasn’t very strong at math, probably just part of the “spacey-artist” stereotype. But his calculations and plans were spot-on for the numbers that we needed to cut the stringers. So my apologies and thanks to him. Although he spilled wine all over everything my desk this weekend and failed to mention it to me. So I’m not currently feeling too bad about the math thing.

In any case, with cutting the stringers out of the way, everything went together fairly quickly. We did a quick frame-up on the ground, then Andy and I lifted the stringers and Tony attached them to the wall and platform. Then Kev helped me cut the stair treads, while Tony screwed them into place. And that was that. A huge thank you to everyone who helped, but particularly Tony. Yeah buddy, only three (or was it four) trips to Lowes for one project!
