Okay, so what is the deal? Do the animals just TRY to fall apart while I am gone? This time Tuba got a huge injury on his tail. At first, Stacey thought it was just broken from some sort of accident. But then it burst oozing pus, and it turned out to be a horribly infected bite from another cat. So now part of his tail is shaved and Stacey has to stuff antibiotics down his throat twice a day. Nice work Tuba. One good thing about the Tuba tail situation is that when Stacey went to the vet down the block from our house, she learned they had a pet blood bank program. I guess the only other pet blood bank in the northwest is in Portland. If your dog/cat is a universal donor (dogs are a 1 in 6 chance, all cats are universal donors), it gets free vet care in exchange for the donation. So we took Griffen in to be tested, and of course, he is a universal donor. Surprised? You shouldn’t be, he is only the greatest dog in the world. Filed under: Animals Comments: 9 Comments |

Tony took us fishing up the Boulder river yesterday. It was a beautiful place and a lot of fun. The fish were small but energetic. And hey, we caught a few. So that makes a good day. The fish in the photo is the first one that I was actually able to land on a fly rod. Every other time I had one on the line, it slipped off. He was a fine little fellow, smaller of the two that I caught. But a very pretty little rainbow. And yes, he swam away just fine. I know, I know. You all wish you were there. No worries, we made a little video so you could see what Andy and I look like fishing. Filed under: Travels Comments: 6 Comments |

So we went to Yellowstone National Park. I had never been there before, and I have to say that it was pretty amazing. We saw bison, elk, deer, antelope, bluebirds, magpies, coyotes and two grizzly bears. Not to mention a bunch of beautiful streams/rivers, waterfalls, steam vents and geysers. And yes, we went and saw Old Faithful. Which was, oddly enough, probably the least interesting thing we saw. It really is an awe inspiring place. Starting top left: 1. Mineral pool 2. Yellowstone hills 3. The traffic jams are odd in Yellowstone 4. Yellowstone’s version of the Grand Canyon 5. Lower falls 6. Grizzly #1 7. Andy stares at the locals 8. Grizzly #2 with a coyote in the background 9. Two dudes. Filed under: Josh's random life and Travels Comments: 4 Comments |

You know what is a long way to get anywhere? Spending 14 hours in the car with me. Poor Andy Davidson. In any case, we made it to Montana and are spending a few days with his brother Tony. Weather has been good, but still cold. Unless you are standing in the sun, then it’s warm. Unless there is wind, then it’s cold. Whatever. 1. The cat is happy we made it. 2. Andy looks worn out from listening to my lame stories in the car. 3. Looking for agates on the Yellowstone River. 4. You heard the toilet, now do it. 5. Looks like Wren has already been here on his scooter trip. 6. The mark of the Montana mafia. 7. Enjoying Tony’s new big screen. Tomorrow I’ll post some photos from Yellowstone. Did Andy get eaten by a bear? You’ll have to tune in to see the exciting conclusion. Filed under: Josh's random life and Travels Comments: 1 Comment |

Do you like TV? Sure! We all do! Why pay high cable prices when you can just CLICK your MOUSE? Feel guilty about stealing television? Well waylay that guilt by donating some ca$h to Gretchen’s “Walk for Hunger“! Surely 20 miles deserves a buck or two eh? Filed under: Andrew's World of Wonder Comments: 6 Comments |

While I love watching the Discovery channel for “Dirty Jobs” and “Mythbusters”, recently I have been quite mesmerized by a show called “How it’s Made”. Which is essentially just footage from one sort of factory or another, with a voice over explaining what is going on. It has to be a VERY cheap show to produce, but it is fascinating. Contact lenses, Peeps candy, aluminum foil, the list goes on and on. This week’s show had a segment on snowboards. Click the image above for a WMV version (11MB), or click here for a Quicktime version (7MB). I put both up because the QT version was acting weird on one of my computers.
