Kevin and I went up to what has become my favorite Nooksack system trib. It’s just such a pretty creek. Unlike many of the snow fed creeks in the cascades, this one has a lot of water carved rocks which creates some really cool natural sculptures and water paths. Plus, there are healthy little rainbows all over the place. I haven’t found any bigger than 8-9in so far. But there are some deep pools that I have yet to figure out the best way to fish. Sadly, people’s jerkiness is hard to get away from. Not only was there a disgusting amount of trash from illegal campers, but someone actually left a bag of garbage up there. Leaving trash is bad enough, but who bags their trash and then just leaves the bag? Plus, they were jerk fishermen. We found their styrofoam nightcrawler containers and powerbait. This photo is larger than the others to draw attention to the ignorance facing our great outdoors (insert PSA video clip of Native American with tear rolling down face). Interesting note, the guy playing the Native American is actually a second generation Italian American. How weird is that? Filed under: Outdoor Adventures Comments: 2 Comments |

So I found out that my fancy pants HTC Mogul cell phone has a panorama stitching feature. It’s not real high resolution, 1400 pixels on the long side compared to 2000 pixels for a normal photo from the phone. And given that it’s a cell phone camera wiht a tiny imaging chip, it’s quality isn’t great. But it does stitch pretty well and allow you to get a much wider angle shot than you would have otherwise. Lots of digital cameras have this feature, but I was surprised that someone thought to include it on a cell phone camera. The photo above is of one of the community garden locations in Bellingham. Stacey is thinking of getting a space there next summer. Currently, the place is in full bloom and is very pretty. Filed under: Photo/Video/Film Comments: 1 Comment |

The brothersroot who can’t ever be bothered to read the blog came up to Anacortes with his girl Seanna and friends Joe and Kim from Homepower magazine (where he works). Ben, Joe, and Kim (along with Guemes local and Homepower editor Ian) were there to install an 18 panel solar array on the roof of mothersroot castle. My mom and Warren are used to a much quieter environment than what seven extra people and three extra dogs can create. But they toughed it out and now have a bunch of neat looking things on their roof. Peraonlly, I think they are actually signals for the UN helicopters to help with the upcoming overthrow of the US government. It’s pretty impressive. Plus, I got to see the guys across the street hit a water main when they were tearing up the sidewalk for the new duplex/townhouse thing that is being built. So Griffen has worms. Whipworms to be exact. Which is odd, since the vet says that this is the first case of whipworms he has seen in 10 years. Our winters are too cold for them and it kills the eggs. I blame Al Gore, stupid global warming. Filed under: Animals Comments: 3 Comments |
