Contra show at the Rogue. Good times? Yes, good times. Plenty of the crew were in attendence. But of course we were overshadowed by the sheer power of the Contra’s fanboy possee. Yes Conrad, that’s you. Filed under: Cool Kid Music and Friends Comments: 2 Comments |

Shane had his traditional “Christmas Day Evening” party and his parents were gracious and patient hosts as usual. The crowd was a bit smaller than in previous years, but it was a fun time nevertheless. Drinks were consumed, food was eaten, jokes were made, and music was played. Kind of a sausage-fest, but hey, what Anacortes party isn’t? Did you miss out on the fun because you were stuck in some phony-baloney church or synagogue? Don’t worry, we can bring the party right to you through the magic of Digital Audio! Perhaps you would like to listen to the crew singing the indie-rawk anthem “Elephant Gun”. With a charango and a ukulele on the track, we’ll have a deal with Saddle Creek records by next Thursday. Not your style? Well how about this rambling version of “Just What I needed”? Who cares if you can’t remember the lyrics, just sing louder on the chorus! Still too laid back? Well then you need this here thunderous rendition of “Do What You Want”. Take that Superman. YA-HEY! Don’t be a bandwidth hog. Right-Click and download the tracks onto your computer if you want to listen to them more than once. All the bandwidth we use has to come out of Andrew’s shoulder surgery fund. And Gretchen is getting tired of wiping his rear end for him every day, so he really needs to get the surgery done. Hooray for family! This was the largest gathering of family that we have had at my mother’s house in over a decade. Warren, for one, was stoked. He finally got to have the level of noise and confusion that he is used to. The way I hear it, when my mom is gone, he turns the stereo and TV on at the same time, then reads the newspaper while having lunch standing up in the kitchen. Oh wait…that’s me at my house when Stacey is gone. Oh well, whatever. I guess the point is that St Presents day was a hell of a lot of fun. Filed under: Family Comments: 1 Comment |

After a long night of “cool kid” activities, it was somewhat difficult to get moving and onto the golf course for the 3rd annual “Skip out on the family” golf game. With the others asleep or not in attendance, Lars and I became the only two to have played all three years. Though we did get Davidson out there this year and one of Lars’s buddies (who’s name eludes me), so that was a nice addition. The day turned out to be sunny and even somewhat warm. And despite being too tired to properly swing a club, we actually played fairly well. This was Davidson’s first time actually playing a round of golf, and he made plenty of mistakes. But by the end of the round, he was making some fine shots and could be better than me with very little effort. Not that being better than me is necessarily something to be proud of. The afternoon was filled with the traditional “Hall House Hot-tamale Hoedown”. I’d love to be able to fill in a bit more about this adventure, but I wasn’t there and Andrew didn’t bother to tell me anything about it. So I guess you’ll just have to make up some stories. The reason I wasn’t at the tamale-feed was because I headed down south to Camano Island to have St Present’s Eve with Stacey’s family. We ate a staggeringly good roast, drank some tasty drinks, opened presents, and raced slot cars on David’s giant new slot car track (sadly, Stacey is better than I am at the slot-cars, very embarrassing). Unlike previous years, Stacey and I actually had a guest bedroom with something larger than a twin bed. So we enjoyed family until late in the evening and then had a fine night’s sleep. Good times were had by all on Sunday night. Families had all arrived, friends were all in town, and folks were just sick enough of each other to want to head to the bar for a few beers. I should have gone to bed with the smart people (Ben, Seanna, Andrew, Saxtor, Megan, et al). But the idiot crew (myself, Lars, Davidson, Tony, Jer, Blake, Shane, and assorted others) all wandered up to Lars & Andy’s house for one of those high-class “after parties” that you hear so much about. Went to a Celtics-Bucks game last night with my manager/coworker/boss/buddy Robb. It was kind of annoying to look up and see all of the championship banners hanging in the rafters, and then to think of how empty the rafters of Key Arena are. Of course, they will be even worse in a year or two when the Sonics skip town to Oklahoma. Thanks a lot Howard Schultz, David Stern, and useless politicians. Celtics beat the Bucks and now have the best home record in the history. Sadly, Ray Allen was in a suit and must have had the day off. He’s a good guy, and it would be nice to see him win a ring. On the upside, Boston Garden has mustard and ketsup ON TAP! Not a pump, but a real tap system. Filed under: Josh's random life and Sports and Travels Comments: None |

STORM TEAM 2007: Reporting for YOU! Seriously, 8-10 inches of snow kicked Boston’s butt today. The office was empty by 2pm, just me and a few executives with SUV’s standing around like idiots. Well I guess I was the idiot, since they had 4WD vehicles. So I inched my tiny rental car back to the hotel. I didn’t want to drive fast, but I really didn’t have to worry about it since it took 45 minutes to go a dozen blocks in the traffic. Once safely parked for the night, I headed over to the hotel bar across the street to camp out for some food and drink. I got there before the kitchen closed, most of the other 40-50 refugees from the highway commute weren’t so lucky. I think there is going to be a riot shortly if they don’t dredge up a fry cook somewhere. When car looks like the first picture, and after three hours in the bar the roads still look like the third picture, then my dinner is what you see in the second picture. Go candy!
