One of the great things about this house is that we live 200 feet from our vet’s office. Which is handy when you have a house full of problem animals like we do.

One of the coolest parts about our vet is that it is home to the Northwest Veterinary Blood Bank. Which is the only pet blood bank north of Seattle and one of just two in Washington state. Being the wonderful dog that he is, Griffen naturally turned out to be a universal donor and has been donating blood ever since the first month we moved here. Unsurprisingly, he does his duty with no complaints and the staff over there love him (he also loves the can of wet dog food he gets every time he donates). And as a bonus, because of his donating, we get some of our pet bills paid for. Meaning that Griffen actually pays for the antibiotics and care that the awful cats are always requiring.

On our last visit over there, Griffen got this new dog tag. He’s actually up to 12 units now I think, but they spelled his name wrong on the tag and had to make it again before they could give it to us. I feel kind of stupid, because one of my goals over the past two years was actually to start donating blood, and I didn’t make it happen. So I’m hoping that Griffen’s recognition will get me off my butt and into the blood bank. The human blood bank of course.
