Jason Rock and his daughter
Posted on 03.29.09 by Josh Root @ 2:25 pm

If she could just be as sweet as her dad.

Jason Rock, his gal Hope, and their daughter Zoe came up from Eugene to see his family. As the only other member of the Fab snow team who has a child, I thought it was important that Jack and I head down to visit. Zoe is super cute. She looks like a little baby muppet. Jack showed off by going nuts in Zoe’s jumparoo horse thing and being a noisy goober. We caught up on lives, talked about old friends, and drank a few Schmidties. Jason has been in Eugene for 10 years now, and yet none of us have gone to visit him. Some friends we all are. But I’m hoping that will change with the babies in our lives now and with Andrew and Gretch living in Portland.

I included a circa 1993 skateboarding photo of Jason. Dig the ultra-small wheel era.

Let me show you how to do that Zoe. Awwww, isn't that cute. Zoe is cute too I guess.
And by now, Jack has stolen the Jumparoo. Take THAT you stupid ledge!

Griffen likes Jack a little more
Posted on 03.28.09 by Josh Root @ 3:57 pm

Jack was very generous with his meatloaf the other night and Griffen, for the first time, thought that having a baby around might be okay.

Larger glorious HD version right here.

Shhhhh…Don’t tell Maya
Posted on 03.24.09 by Josh Root @ 9:24 pm

Jack thinks he'll take them glasses there.

While Maya was visiting the wild world of the Washington state capitol, Nicole and Chloe came up to visit today. Jack was pleased to see them both. But he especially liked Chloe’s long bangs and fun-to-grab glasses.

Eliot Returns
Posted on 03.22.09 by Andrew @ 6:16 pm

Eliot came to town and we went bowling. It was a good time. Really looking forward to his permanent return to PDX so that I can show him that a 188 is garbage! …he also beat me at air hockey.

Them were the days, weren’t them?
Posted on 03.19.09 by Josh Root @ 5:58 pm

Oh my goodness, we were rad.

The year was 1983. The Nintendo Entertainment System goes on sale in Japan, Flashdance and Return of the Jedi are box-office hits, McDonalds wins our hearts with the introduction of the McNugget, and a young Andrew and Josh decide to enjoy a hot tub somewhere in the beautiful San Juans.

1983 might not actually have been the year this was taken. It’s just a guess.

Lars comes up for some “Jack time”
Posted on 03.17.09 by Josh Root @ 7:42 pm

Oh Lars, get off that phone.

Lars came up to hang out for a bit and check out all the Jack related activities. Jack wanted to check out all the Lars related activities, but that didn’t seem wise (or sanitary). So we stuck with the original plan.

Now we're Squawkin!

Weirdest claw machine ever
Posted on 03.06.09 by Josh Root @ 10:27 am

$4 for your chance at lobster goodness What fun they must be having!

I was gone for a few days in Las Vegas for the PMA (photo marketing assoc) trade show. I saw a bunch of cameras, blah blah blah. Anyone who is interested for any reason can read the posts from the photo.net blog. Anyway, Ichibans is a sushi restaurant that Andrew, Gretchen, and I ate at a number of times during our trip to Vegas a few years ago. So I was happy to see that it was still there on this trip. However, I don’t remember this giant weird “win a lobster” claw machine being there. Things that make me wonder if this is a good idea:

-Vegas is a long way from anywhere in the world that would have fresh lobster. So these can’t be in that good of shape.
-Given the success rate of claw machines, I have to imagine that most of these lobsters die in the tank before anyone “wins” them.
-$4 in this machine has to be the worst odds in Vegas.
-What is a lobster machine doing outside of a Sushi restaurant? Perhaps they think a ton of Red Sox fans are going to be at the sports book next door.
-Who has to take the lobster from the “prize lands here” chute and give it to the cook? I can’t imagine that’s good for liability insurance.
-Why is Vegas the height of “We do it because we can” pointlessness?

Good times.
