Belated congratulations to Per on his radical graduation from McGill University. It seems like just yesterday he was drawing monkeys on garbage cans. Now look at him! Filed under: Friends Comments: 7 Comments |

So how important did I feel the other day when I got a personally addressed letter in the mail (complete with valiant eagle and patriotic flag stamp) from none other than the Portland branch of the Federal Stimulus mucky-mucks? I could barely contain my excitement as I tore open the envelope to find my big cash reward for years of social service and low paying non-profit employment. Public schools be damned, I knew that I was finally going to get what was rightfully mine! Needless to say that I wasn’t disappointed one bit! Cha-Ching! $$! Jack and North have got some learnin’ to do before they grow up. No time like the present to get started. Original at Modern Drunkard magazine. Filed under: Food/wine/beer Comments: 4 Comments |

Jack’s first birthday party went off like a bomb! We had a great time with a lot of good friends. Thanks to everyone who came by. Special thanks to Stacey’s family who helped us set stuff up and to my mom and Warren for bringing us extra party supplies and crafting the most gourmet first birthday cake any child in either family has ever had. Happy birthday little man. It’s been an interesting year and I’m amazed at how much I’ve learned because of you. Some of it I didn’t want to learn (just how bad your baby screaming at 2am can make you feel) but a lot of it I did (just how amazing it is to watch your child learn to walk). It’s been wonderful, tiring, fascinating, frustrating and indescribable all rolled into one. But I guess that’s parenting. Your mom and I love you more than anything. Happy first birthday. I finally got to go to the pool with Jack the other day. Bethany and Josh came up with Hunter and we all trooped to the Arnie Hanna Aquatic Center’s kiddie Pool. Please note that it is “pool” with a capitol “pee”. It is a kiddie pool after all. Filed under: Friends and Jack Comments: 5 Comments |

We have gotten a ton of amazing and generous baby (and personal wellness) gifts over the past 9 months. However, one of the most unique, and the only to be currently hanging on our wall, comes from our dear friend, Leah. Every time I walk by this fine piece of art my heart fills with joy. It makes me smile knowing that North will grow up with the knowledge that his parents are big shots who run with celebrities. Thanks, Leah! …now if only we could get one of MC Skat Cat. Isn’t the internet amazing? Back when I was a boy you had to hire a professional caricature artist to sketch your child just to get a 4×6 to send off to Grandma via Pony Express. These days you can get all your up-to-the-minute North action on FLICKR! These are wild times in which we live! Filed under: North Comments: 1 Comment |

Is there anything babies can’t do? I mean assuming that you are asking about sleeping, eating, going to the bathroom, crying, and going to the bathroom. Thanks again to everyone for the love, support, and well wishes. Gretchen, North, Ash, and I are all doing well and adjusting to our new schedule(s). I (we) very much apologize if we haven’t returned your phonecall, txt message, email, or smoke signal. I promise we’ll get in touch with all, but at the moment we are still getting our bearings in this wild world of parenthood. So that I don’t turn this blog into a North-tacular baby spectacular, hopefully later today I will be setting up a Flickr account for all to view North in his greatness. I’ll post up a link as soon as I have it going. Filed under: North Comments: 5 Comments |
